Because we upgraded from PHP 5 to PHP 7 during the last sync, a change occurred that may affect whether or not a mineral deposit exists on terrain squares that did not already have an existing deposit prospected.

Between version 5 and version 7, PHP changed how seeded random number generation works. Because we use a seeded random number to determine whether you succeeded in finding a deposit (which is what makes it so you can't just constantly prospect a square and eventually succeed), that means that any squares which do not yet have a deposit on them now have a different "success chance" number than they did before. This means that prospecting those squares again may yield a deposit where there was none before. This affects any terrain square which does not currently have a deposit on it, so terrain squares with existing deposits already prospected will be unchanged.

Due to confusion caused by the comparatively little information provided by the NPC Market, we will be allowing players who inadvertently bought docked entities from the market and who want a refund to receive one.

1) the item must still be docked
2) you must have won the auction within the past 60 days (time period in which the event is verifiable)

You will be refunded only the value you paid for the winning bid. Attempts to game the system will be detected and harshly punished.

These entities will be re-listed on the market some time in the future with a new, clear notice that they are docked and access is not guaranteed.

To get the process started, list EVERY entity you have evidence of in a SINGLE support ticket along with a copy of the events showing your victory and credit transfer.

I apologize to the asims in advance.

Update: Please file these as a support ticket

Update 2: all docked entities now indicate their status on the market and no refund will be given for future purchases after today

Please be aware that there is currently a bug preventing image denial. if your image has not been processed, please be aware it may be up for denial but cannot be.

Governments may have noticed that they are receiving a dissolution warning for failing to meet the new system requirement even if they do control at least two systems. This is a bug introduced in the last sync and does not accurately reflect government dissolution status. A fix is already in progress, and governments will not be incorrectly reverting in the meantime.

(Posted by Mikel von Bianchi on Year 19 Day 272 9:23)

With the next sync, faction requirements will change in the following ways:

1. Member requirements for non-governments will be eliminated (technically, decrease to 1).
2. Member requirements for governments will decrease to 15.
3. Asset requirements will increase in the following ways:

For Paramilitary factions (Bounty Hunters, Mercenaries, Pirates):
- Minimum capital to 100,000,000 credits
- Creation fee to 50,000,000 credits

For General and Medical Production factions:
- Minimum capital to 150,000,000 credits
- Creation fee to 100,000,000 credits

For Mining and Recycling facttions:
- Minimum capital to 75,000,000 credits
- Creation fee to 50,000,000 credits

For Services factions (Information, Trading, Religion):
- Minimum capital to 50,000,000 credits
- Creation fee to 50,000,000 credits

Government requirements will change in the following ways:
- Planet requirements remain at 5
- System requirements are added, 2 systems required
- Sector requirements remain at 1
- Minimum capital increased to 1,000,000,000 credits
- Creaton fee increased to 200,000,000 credits
- Minimum population increased to 1,000,000,000 inhabitants

These requirements are subject to tweaking in the future if they seem to be off. We will evaluate and re-assess.

UPDATE: The Minimum Capital and Creation Fee requirements will go into effect within the next 24 hours; member and system requirements will still need to wait for a sync.

UPDATE2: Minimum Capital/Creation Fee requirements have gone live.

All action timers are currently stuck. The problem has been identified and is being resolved, but it will take a while for actions to work through the backlog and complete.

Edit: Everything is caught up and working again.

(Posted by Syn on Year 19 Day 249 19:01)

There is currently an issue where using a medical item outside will cause the timer to freeze. This is in the process of being fixed and will require a sync.

Update: This issue has been resolved and all frozen medical actions have been completed. The double space issue in forum posts has been corrected as well.

It is time once again for ASIM applications! Three potential slots are open.

Here are the rules:

  • Newly hired asims are not required to irrevocably drop their character. Instead, their characters are suspended for the duration of being an asim.
  • Asims have no IC activity related to their character while working for the administration.
  • Asims will have a defined period of service of six months after which a new group of asims will be hired. There is no limit on the number of terms if reselected.
  • Applications will be in January and July, with asims working from February through the end of July and then August through January of next year.
  • Compensation in the form of Combine Points will be provided for asims who remain active and effective throughout their service period.
  • Asims are required to use IRC and must be active in staff channels as that is how the majority of decisions are made.
  • Asims duties center around helping players affected by bugs, handling support tickets, and dealing with rules violations. There will be opportunities for asims to assist in designing RP opportunities for SWC at large, along with participating in discussion on game features before they are announced or implemented.

Remember that current asims are allowed to re-apply and may be re-selected.

Applications should be submitted via Darkness Message to Selatos, Arjuna, and Baugrems. Please answer the following questions in your application.

SWC-specific questions:

  • What is your Combine handle?
  • How long have you played SWC?
  • What have you done IC so far (including previous characters)? What are you working on currently, and what is your position with your faction?
  • Why do you want to become an asim?
  • Are you involved in any other online games or RPGs of a similar nature? If so please describe your position and responsibilities
  • Please provide three references of SWC members who are not on the administration team that have been in the game for at least two years.

Real-life questions:

  • Where do you live?
  • How old are you?
  • What is your occupation?
  • How much time would you like to volunteer per week on improving SWC?
  • Have you performed administrative duties in the past or organized groups/events?
  • Would you classify esports as a real sport?

Applications will be open until July 20th with new asims starting their term on August 1st.

Edit: One more week to get in those applications!

Edit 2.0: Ozur Sentire will be joining the asim team for this round starting August 1st. He has one week (sorry bud) to clean up his IC actions and report for duty. Thanks to those who applied. Best of luck next year.
